Living for an eternal future

On 15 January 2016, gunmen attacked the Cappuccino cafe and the Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. Mike Riddering an American Missionary was killed in this attack along with many others. I was profoundly affected by a youtube clip of Mike preaching where he said
‘If we lost everything, even our own lives, we have gained everything in heaven, this is something to look forward to, can you live your life like that? I now get that, I understand that, and I embrace that, I love that’
What a powerful testimony from a man who was called to do just that. Closer to home On the morning of 22 March 2016, three coordinated bombings occurred in Belgium, In these attacks, 32 victims and three suicide bombers were killed, and over 300 people were injured.
We have no idea what the future holds for Britain. Many of the children and young people in our youth groups think of the London attacks of 2005 as ‘History’ not remembering them for themselves. As children’s and youth workers we have a responsibility to teach our young people to live in such a way that their life says
‘For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain’ Philippians 1:21
do we model that in our own lives? Do we teach that along with all the other things that crowd in? let’s not lose our focus in all the activities and pray for a generation of young people that see Christ as the focus of their lives.
